Learning to Walk His Way

Psalms 143:8 NASB 1995
“Let me hear your lovingkindness in the morning; For I trust in You: Teach me the way in which I should walk; For to you I lift my soul.”

Have you ever struggled with knowing what to do with your day?

Maybe you have a list of things, but thinking about it, saving it for later would be the better option.

Or, you don’t have as much to do but don’t know what to do with all of your free time.

I can attest to both of those feelings equally. When I go through these feelings, I tend to get overwhelmed because I don’t have direction. And since I don’t have direction, my day gets away from me, and I live each moment aimlessly. But here’s a thought that occurred to me lately… maybe with a little direction and help from our Heavenly Father, there would be less worry and more freedom in my day-to-day life.

When we look at the scripture above in Psalms 143:8, I love how it says,

Let me hear your lovingkindness in the morning; For I trust in you.”

Oh, how I know that I need to hear His lovingkindness before my thoughts intrude with the mess that makes up my brain! Who can agree? Does anyone wake up and their thoughts begin to intrude with a million little things that they need to do? If you feel this way, l want to work on this together and trust in the One who speaks to us. I want us to be able to hear our Father’s voice before ours gets in the way.

The second part of the verse says,

Teach me the way in which I should walk; For to you I lift my soul.

This scripture especially speaks to me because it says, “Teach me.” Teaching someone something means that the teacher knows that there’s something new that needs to be taught. The concept of the lesson is foreign until then. When I think about teaching my daughter common sign language gestures, she doesn’t learn it right away. These teachings usually take a lot of repetition and practice. However, once she understands the concept, she tends to have it down; UNTIL she doesn’t. This is when I, the teacher, recognize she needs a bit more help and I need to help her with the concept again.

The most wonderful thing about our Father is that He is the BEST teacher. When I want to begin scheduling on my own, He kindly brings me back to Him, showing me the way I should walk my day. From the tasks and roles I need to prioritize to the things that just don’t need to happen today, I believe by going to God, He will tell me what to do. As time continues, I believe that going to Him about this part of my life, the concept will not be so foreign to me anymore, and it will become a part of who I am. This brings me so much comfort, and I hope it does for you too!

Maybe you are like me and need help with going to the Father for direction in your day, or maybe you need help learning how to “walk.” Maybe God wants to teach you something new so you can live an area of your life more freely and without worry or fear. My prayer is that whatever it is, God would reveal these things to you and that it would deepen our relationship with Him.
